First Things First - Stay Safe
If your window has been smashed by a break-in, vandalism, weather or accident, your priorities in order are: people first, then security, then glass replacement. Don't try to clear glass with bare hands - laminated and toughened glass shards are exceptionally sharp.
The 6-Step Process
1. Make the Area Safe (5 minutes)
Keep children and pets well away. Wear shoes and gloves. Don't touch broken glass with skin.
2. Photograph Everything (5 minutes)
Before you move anything, take wide and close-up photos of the damage. Your insurer will want them, and so will the police if it's a break-in.
3. Report to Police if Suspicious (10 minutes)
If there's any chance it was forced entry or criminal damage, get a crime reference number on 101. Most insurers require it.
4. Call a Same-Day Board-Up Specialist
This is where we come in. We respond across Essex and East London with same-day boarding to make your home secure and weatherproof until the glass can be measured, made and fitted.
5. Wait Inside, Away From the Window
Don't try to tape over a broken pane - it won't hold and the broken glass can fall inwards. A draughty room is far better than an injury.
6. Glass Replacement (Usually 2-5 days later)
Once your custom-cut sealed unit is ready, we return to remove the boarding and fit the new glass - typically under an hour per window.
Why Insurance Requires Board-Up
Most home insurance policies have a "reasonable steps" clause. If a burglar enters through a broken window you didn't secure, claims for any subsequent theft can be reduced or refused. A documented same-day board-up protects both your home and your policy.
