What are Integral (or Integrated) Blinds?
An integral blind - often called an integrated blind - is a slim aluminium venetian blind fitted between the two panes of a double or triple-glazed unit at manufacture. Once the unit is sealed, the blind lives inside a hermetic, argon-filled cavity - protected from dust, hands and moisture for the lifetime of the window. The two terms are used interchangeably across the UK glazing industry.
The question everyone asks first
How much do integral blinds cost?
Nobody publishes this, because there are several types of integral blind and the prices vary greatly. You are not buying a blind - you are buying a replacement sealed glass unit with the blind built into it. That means the price tracks the size of the pane, the control type and how many units we make in one batch.
Pricing is available on request for Essex and East London addresses. Because every pane is made to measure and blind types vary widely, the only number that means anything is the one on your written quote - which is free, fixed before we order, and given after a 15-minute survey.

The long-run maths
Fabric blinds in a kitchen or bathroom get replaced every 5-10 years. The sealed unit is guaranteed 25 years and never needs cleaning.
How they're sealed in
Nothing is fixed to your wall. The blind lives inside the glass.
The blind is assembled into the cavity between the two panes in the factory, before the unit is sealed. The perimeter is then closed with a warm-edge spacer bar and a double seal, and the cavity is filled with argon - exactly the same construction as any A-rated sealed unit we fit. From that moment the slats are in a hermetic space: no room air, no dust, no fingers, no moisture.
The manual version is driven by magnets. A slider on the outside of the frame moves a magnetic carrier, which moves its partner inside the sealed cavity to tilt and raise the slats. Nothing passes through the seal, which is why the unit still holds its argon fill and still carries the full guarantee. Motorised and solar versions work the same way with a small drive unit in the spacer bar instead of your hand.
On site there is no fitting in the usual sense. We take the old sealed unit out of the frame and put the new one in - same frame, same hinges, same handles, roughly 30 to 45 minutes a window. That is also why you can retrofit them to windows and doors you already own without replacing anything else.

Where we fit them
Integral blinds across Essex and East London.
Every integral blind unit is made to measure and fitted by our own engineers from our Basildon workshop in SS15, so there is no third-party installer and no long lead-time from a national showroom. Survey to fit is typically two to three weeks, and we work within roughly 20 miles of Basildon.
We survey most frequently in Basildon, Billericay, Brentwood and Shenfield, Chelmsford, Southend-on-Sea, Rayleigh, Wickford, Benfleet, Hornchurch, Upminster and Romford.
The most common jobs are bathroom and en-suite windows where fabric blinds warp in steam, kitchen windows above a hob, south-facing conservatories in the newer Chelmsford and Billericay developments, and rear patio and French doors with blinds inside the glass where there is nowhere sensible to hang a traditional blind.
If your existing frames are sound, we can usually swap the sealed unit only and keep the frame, which is the same approach we use for misty double glazing repairs. That keeps the cost of adding integral blinds well below a full window replacement.
