Blown Windows Explained
What a blown window actually is
"Blown window" and "misty window" describe the same fault. A double glazed unit is two panes bonded to a spacer bar with a moisture-absorbing desiccant inside. When the perimeter seal fails, damp air is drawn into the cavity, the desiccant saturates and you get the tell-tale haze, streaking or pooled water between the panes that no amount of cleaning shifts.
Once a unit has blown it cannot be resealed or drilled and dried out with any lasting result. The only permanent fix is a new sealed unit, and that is a glass job rather than a window job. Your frames, hinges, handles and sills stay exactly where they are.
